    Pairwise believes healthy food should be affordable, convenient, and sustainable.  We believe gene editing can be used to accelerate plant breeding in leveraging the natural genetic diversity in agricultural crops to address global food challenges.  We are bringing the benefits of these new innovations both to producers and directly to consumers through the produce aisle of their local grocery store.  Located in the Raleigh-Durham metro area Pairwise was formed in 2017 and has plans to add about 100 employees over the next year to help meet our aggressive product development goals. 

     

    Pairwise is looking to hire an experienced patent agent.  This individual will work across the organization with project teams, leadership and outside patent counsel to help develop and drive its intellectual property processes and protections. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in molecular biology, cell biology or similar field.
    • Ph.D. or equivalent combination of degree and work experience preferred
    • USPTO registration preferred (not required)
    • Minimum of 5 years of work experience, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a patent agent in a corporate environment.
    • Experience in an ag tech company greatly preferred
    • Ability to identify, review and explain patent-related matters and to provide IP advice to internal clients.
    • Work within a budget under only general direction.
    • Frequently interact with other departments, quickly understand new product features, and manage IP review activities of technical experts.
    • Ability to distill and communicate complex technical and legal concepts clearly and succinctly.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Aid in the preparation and review of invention disclosures and patent filings. Aid in ongoing patent prosecution and maintenance decisions.
    • Provide analysis of competitor IP and landscape analysis
    • Perform patentability studies
    • Facilitate brainstorming sessions with internal teams for the purpose of generating IP
    • Working closely with leadership and project teams, help set overall IP strategy and priorities, including advising on IP protection and licensing strategies
    • Provide education and training for employees regarding patent and IP related matters
    • Provide support in contract-related matters
