    Pairwise believes healthy food should be affordable, convenient, and sustainable.  We believe gene editing can be used to accelerate plant breeding in leveraging the natural genetic diversity in agricultural crops to address global food challenges.  We are bringing the benefits of these new innovations both to producers and directly to consumers through the produce aisle of their local grocery store.  Located in the Raleigh-Durham metro area, Pairwise was formed in 2017 and has plans to add about 100 employees over the next year to help meet our aggressive product development goals. 


    This posting represents several positions in molecular biology that will develop innovative technologies for gene editing in plants through expertise in molecular tool development, eukaryotic DNA repair, and vector design.  These scientists will join a team of PhD scientists and research associates that will work to deliver novel insights and novel application methods for gene editing technologies in plants. Your contribution will be critical to helping Pairwise meet technology and product development goals, and to building a culture where science is fun.


    Required qualifications

    • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics or related field
    • Track record of excellence in formulating and executing molecular research leading to novel molecular tool development
    • Demonstrated ability to contribute collaboratively in a cross functional environment

    Preferred qualifications

    • Expertise in developing molecular tools for biotechnology, or
    • Expertise in DNA repair pathways in mammalian or plant cells, or
    • Expertise in vector design and efficient cloning processes, especially plant transformation vectors



    • Collaborate closely with protein, cell biology, and plant transformation scientists to drive an innovation culture and create a world-class research focus on gene editing in plants
    • Develop new technologies and optimizations that increase the efficacy of the gene editing program
    • Identify new strategies for the application of gene editing tools to improve agronomic and consumer characteristics of plants
    • Train and mentor research associates in technical excellence
    • Bring external innovation into Pairwise
