    Pairwise believes healthy food should be affordable, convenient, and sustainable.  We believe gene editing can be used to accelerate plant breeding in leveraging the natural genetic diversity in agricultural crops to address global food challenges.  We are bringing the benefits of these new innovations both to producers and directly to consumers through the produce aisle of their local grocery store.  Located in the Raleigh-Durham metro area, Pairwise was formed in 2017 and has plans to add about 100 employees over the next year to help meet our aggressive product development goals. 

    The Head of Human Resources will play a critical role in establishing and supporting a robust company culture to enable science-based innovation, risk taking, intellectual curiosity, and openness and inclusion of diverse ideas as we tackle difficult challenges facing the future of food.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads early design of corporate culture and serves as a key culture ambassador to the organization, both internally and externally.
    • Develops and contributes to internal communications methods, tools and schedules to ensure frequent and transparent delivery of key messaging to employees and to create an environment where communication is encouraged, trusted and expected.
    • Manages all talent acquisition, sourcing, recruitment, onboarding activity.
    • Handles all employee relations issues, including investigations, follow up and resolution and implements proactive steps to mitigate risk and ensure compliance across the organization. Stays current on employment law, standards and government regulations, as required.  Advises leadership and engages external expertise, as necessary.
    • Design and develop appropriate compensation and benefits programs to ensure company can remain competitive in its attraction and retention of talent.
    • Lead strategic planning around organizational design, workforce forecasting and budgeting.
    • Determine necessary training requirements and advance plans to proactively support team with critical development initiatives throughout the company’s evolution.
    • Serve as a key internal consultant to management, providing executive coaching, as necessary, either directly or using external resources.
    • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement
    • Recommends innovative approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed
    • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
    • May at times be asked to assist with a variety of payroll related job duties, and will coordinate with payroll manager for payroll related benefits and/or programs.

    • Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
    • Ability to perform at high levels in a fast-paced ever-changing work environment
    • Should possess excellent business acumen that includes good financial skills, financial analysis, and budgeting skills
    • Demonstrated leadership skills as an organization-wide strategic planner and in the successful implementation for those plans, both short and long term
    • Personal characteristics which include outstanding verbal and communication skills on an individual and group basis, excellent writing skills, professional appearance, and an positive demeanor
    • The candidate will be a high-energy professional with demonstrated self-confidence, high integrity, and sensitivity to others
    • Proven success recruiting, retaining and developing staff; effective in mentoring and encouraging professional growth and achievement
    • Strong relationship building
    • Minimum 10 years related experience in HR leadership roles, preferably in startup biotechnology environments
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws
    • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification preferred
