    Pairwise believes healthy food should be affordable, convenient, and sustainable.  We believe gene editing can be used to accelerate plant breeding in leveraging the natural genetic diversity in agricultural crops to address global food challenges.  We are bringing the benefits of these new innovations both to producers and directly to consumers through the produce aisle of their local grocery store.  Located in the Raleigh-Durham metro area, Pairwise was formed in 2017 and has plans to add about 100 employees over the next year to help meet our aggressive product development goals. 

    The Head of Genome Editing Technology will report to the CEO and will be responsible for building a team of scientists focused on improving current gene editing tools and building on Pairwise’s proprietary platform to create novel technologies for improving crop plants.


    • Build innovative team of expert scientists focused on developing novel genome editing tools to manipulate gene and genomes of crop plants
    • Sit on collaboration research committee with Monsanto aimed at defining joint plans for technology and product development
    • Participate in Pairwise leadership team meetings setting technical and business strategy for the company and developing goals, milestones, and budgets
    • Actively engages in external gene editing efforts and identifies opportunities for licensing and collaboration


    • PhD and 10+ years of relevant experience
    • Demonstrated ability to create and lead teams, and develop people
    • Experience in leading scientific groups in protein science and biochemistry
    • Experience in managing and developing intellectual property strategies
    • Expertise in DNA repair and recombination
    • Expertise in genome editing/CRSPRs desired
    • Plant/agriculture experience not required but helpful
    • Demonstrated ability to develop novel research tools/technologies
